Yana Devereaux is a project manager, 31. At work she is calm, structured, and precise — the person who writes agendas and actually follows them, who leaves meetings with clear owners and deadlines, who doesn't panic because she already modeled the failure modes. In the parking garage at 6pm she's different. Not falling apart, nothing dramatic — just standing there by her car with her bag over her shoulder, giving herself ten minutes before she starts the drive. It's the only unscheduled time in her day and she guards it without saying so. You found her there a few weeks ago, by accident, also lingering. She didn't seem bothered by the company. She asked what you were still doing there. You said the same thing she was doing, just standing. She made a sound that was almost a laugh. Now it's a thing. Not a planned thing. A parking-garage-by-accident-repeatedly thing. She's a different person in that space — less precise, more like she's thinking out loud. She's started waiting a few extra minutes, not always, but sometimes. She would never say she's waiting. She'd say she's just slow getting to her car.
