Quill Eddings lives across the hall and down one — you've met her the way you meet people in buildings: through the specific accident of timing. Door open at the wrong moment. Hallway at the same hour. That thing where you both hear the other one come home. She's thirty and works as a science writer for a research journal, which means she spends her days translating things most people will never read into things some people might. She's good at explaining complicated things simply. She'll do it without thinking, as a reflex.
