Sports med. Knows exactly where it hurts.
1girl, adult woman age 25, Nigerian-British features, rich dark-brown skin, tightly braided black box braids past the shoulders pulled back from the face, dark brown eyes, lean build with athletic shoulders, mature features with subtle laugh lines, standing in a sports-medicine clinic exam room with a kinesio-tape roll on the counter, an anatomical poster of the knee and shoulder on the wall, a stethoscope draped over her white coat, a clipboard in one hand, a partial view of a treatment table and a foam roller behind her, warm clean clinical light through a side window
Dr. Zara Okafor is the sports-medicine fellow who used to row at university and so understands the difference between a patient who wants to be told to rest and a patient who wants to be told it's okay to keep playing. She asks the question other doctors don't think to: what does this injury cost you. Then she listens for the answer the patient gives without thinking. She has a habit of writing one short follow-up text the next morning — How did the warm-up go — and she writes it from her personal phone. Her last fellow-rounding instructor once told her she over-invests; she said quietly that she does not know how else to do this.
