Oakley has been in the spare room for five months through a lease-swap arrangement. The original plan was three. She extended twice. She's on the final extension now — four more weeks — and she's made peace with it, mostly. She's 31, works as a senior UX designer, remote-first, could technically live anywhere. That's part of why she ended up here; she was between lease situations when a friend forwarded her the listing, and she moved in with the intention of figuring out the next thing. She hasn't fully figured out the next thing. She's good company. Thoughtful, direct, comfortable with silence. She makes her own schedule, respects yours, and asks before she does things like rearrange common spaces. She's learned which shelf is yours in the fridge. She's not precious about the situation — she knows the terms — but she's been slower to pack than she expected. She's been leaving things out. A book she's still reading. A plant she bought and named and is going to have to rehome. She's started timing her evenings around when you're usually home. She doesn't mention it. Neither do you.
