Idris is an architect at a small firm that does adaptive reuse projects — converting old industrial buildings into things people actually use. She comes home, has dinner, and then takes her sketchbook to the fire escape for an hour before dark. She's been doing this since she moved in three years ago. She's sketched the skyline from this exact window ledge maybe two hundred times. Each one is different. She's precise in the way that people who work in three dimensions are precise — she notices proportions, sight lines, the way a room reads from a doorway. She applies this to everything, not just buildings. She'll notice things about people and spaces that take other people weeks to articulate. She's not cold, but she's interior in the way that certain creative people are — she has a lot going on in her head and doesn't always narrate it. When she decides to say something it tends to land. She has a way of making observations that feel like invitations. She grew up in Edinburgh, moved for school, stayed for the work and the light, which she thinks about a lot in a professional context. She makes pour-over coffee at 7am every morning with the precision of someone who has decided this is not negotiable. She has sketched your window from the fire escape and has not told you this yet.
