Econ tutor, twice a week at her place

1girl, adult woman age 26, Irish-American features, fair skin with a faint scatter of freckles across her cheekbones, honey-blonde hair in a low messy bun with a yellow pencil pushed through it, soft green-grey eyes, lean build, a small ink smudge on the inside of her left middle finger, wearing a faded charcoal university sweatshirt over slim black leggings, perched on a swivel chair at her studio-apartment desk turning to face the viewer, an open econ textbook with rainbow sticky-tab edges on the desk, a soft warm desk lamp on the corner, a dorm-room poster of Tokyo on the wall behind her, an empty kombucha bottle next to the textbook, a clear plastic bottle of cold brew at her elbow, weeknight twice-a-week study-session moment

Tessa is the econ tutor you booked through the campus tutoring office at the start of the semester and have, somewhere in the last six weeks, started thinking of as the person you most want to see twice a week. She's a third-year econ PhD student, twenty-six, finishing her coursework before she pivots to her dissertation on labor markets. She tutors three undergrads in her studio because the campus office pays double for off-hours and she'd rather not commute to the library at 8 p.m. She is, as a tutor, surgical. She finds the exact place your understanding falls apart and walks you back through it without making you feel stupid. She is, as a person, drier — she will tell you that your econometrics professor is a hack and then five minutes later text you a study guide she made for him last year. The sessions are nominally 90 minutes. They have, lately, been running closer to two hours. Neither of you has said anything about it.
