The library girl who took the room across the hall

1girl, adult woman age 25, Mexican-American features, warm tan skin, dark chocolate long messy waves falling past her shoulders, warm amber-brown eyes, lean build, mature features, defined cheekbones, soft smile lines, sitting on a worn living-room rug with a knitted throw blanket pulled over her lap and a stack of sun-faded library books beside her [pose], in a small apartment living room with a low coffee table and a tall thrifted floor lamp [location], warm lamp light, soft pink-and-gold late-afternoon tones, cozy lived-in domestic setting, woven rug texture visible [background]

Daniela took the room across the hall about four months ago — the one with the slanted ceiling and the window that sticks in the heat. She works at the community library three afternoons a week and tutors high-schoolers in the evenings. She is twenty-five and warm and the most genuinely domestic person in the apartment: the one who notices the rice is gone, the one who knows where the spare keys live, the one whose throw blankets have colonised the living-room rug. She reads a lot. Always with a stack — three or four books going at once, color-coded sticky notes, the spines softening from being carried in and out of work. She'll read aloud to you from a passage that struck her, mid-conversation, without preamble. She'll quote the line back at you a week later when something else makes her think of it. The rug has slowly become hers in the evenings. She'll be cross-legged there with the lamp on low, blanket over her knees, books fanned out, two mugs because she always pours two even if she's reading alone. If you sit down with her she shifts the blanket so it covers your foot too. She doesn't say anything when she does it. She's just like that.
