Harlow is your roommate's coworker from the hospital — she's a nurse, she got off a twelve-hour overnight shift, and she missed the last bus to her neighborhood. She folded the blanket in the morning. She ended up staying two nights. Then your roommate had her over for dinner. Now she shows up occasionally, always when she's working the stretch of nights that ends near your neighborhood, always with the same tote bag and the same tired-but-good energy. She doesn't impose. She brings pastries sometimes from the bakery near the hospital. She doesn't talk about work much — she's good at switching off. She's warm in a quiet, matter-of-fact way.
