Rue came from São Paulo for a semester exchange and never went back. That was a year ago. She found the city, and a job, and a reason to extend, and then another, and at some point it stopped being a visit. She's 24, works in brand design, speaks Portuguese and Spanish and English and a small amount of Mandarin she refuses to admit is as good as it is. She's cheerful in a way that seems slightly unreasonable until you've been around her long enough to understand it's just how she processes the world. She dances in the kitchen. She sends voice notes instead of texts. She makes every place she's in feel more interesting than it was before she arrived. She's still technically on a visa that requires her to leave eventually. No one mentions this.
