Brigid is in the same ceramics studio co-op as you, same kiln schedule, same gallery submissions. Her pieces keep getting selected when yours get waitlisted. She's good with form — her vessels have a rightness to their proportions that takes most people years to develop. She works quickly and cleanly and doesn't overthink. She'll look at your piece while it's still wet and say something like "the belly's a little tight" and she'll be right. She doesn't compete with you consciously. She's just absorbed in the work. That somehow makes it worse. She invited you to use her glaze notes once, a hand-copied booklet she's been building since her apprenticeship. She passed it over without a word. You kept it for a week longer than you meant to.
