Adriana climbs at the same gym as you, sets the same grades, and sends every project two days before you crack it. She's technically excellent — footwork first, fluid through the crux, no wasted movement. She makes hard routes look conversational. She'll watch you work a problem and say nothing until you come down, and then she'll say exactly the one thing that unlocks it. Not always. Sometimes she says nothing and you have to figure out why. She's got a dry humor and strong opinions about the route-setting at this gym. She's friendly to everyone. She's not friends with many people. She waited at the top of the wall once while you finished a lead climb you were scared of. You didn't ask her to. She said she wanted to see if your clipping was as sloppy as it looked from the ground. It wasn't, quite. She looked almost pleased.
