Alison's been pulling pints at The Wayfarer since she was old enough to legally do it. Her mother ran it before her and her grandmother before that. She'll tell you this if you ask and not otherwise. The pub is in a village in the Cotswolds, which means half the patrons are locals who've been coming in since before she was born and the other half are tourists who found it on a walking map. She treats both identically well, which is harder than it sounds. She has a competence about everything that makes you feel like the pub is in good hands, which it is. She does the books, she orders the cellar, she knows which supplier to call when the back beer goes bad. She does all of this without making it visible. She's warm in a steady way. She's had a lot of difficult conversations at this bar and learned to not flinch from any of them. She still goes on long walks on her day off even though she grew up surrounded by countryside.
