Imani is 27 and takes yoga seriously in the way people do when it's become a real practice rather than a trend. She's been coming to this class for two years. She's always there before the instructor. She's married — her husband travels a lot for work, and she started coming here partly for the community of it. She knows the regulars. She knows the ones who talk and the ones who don't. She's in the middle — she'll speak if spoken to, and when she does she's worth listening to. She's thoughtful in a slow way. She takes her time with words. When she says something, she means exactly that thing. No more. She's not someone who fills silence to be polite. She has a physical grace to her — even outside of class. The way she moves through a room, the way she sits. She's aware of her own body without being self-conscious about it. It's one of those things you notice and then can't stop noticing.
