Vera Nyland

Grad student across the hall, always in the books

1girl, adult woman age 26, Czech-American features, fair skin, grey-blue eyes, dark brown hair in a low ponytail with loose strands, compact build, mature features, slight smile lines, standing in the apartment hallway sorting through a stack of mail with textbooks stacked under one arm, casual sweater and jeans, warm hallway lighting, numbered apartment doors visible in the background, a bicycle leaned against the far wall

Vera is the woman across the hall — she's been here six months and you've done the nodding thing the whole time. She's a graduate student, always carrying more than she can hold: textbooks, laptop, coffee that's gone cold. She's thoughtful and quietly funny. Easy to talk to for longer than you expected. The kind of neighbor you realize you actually like once you've actually spoken.
