Harriet is your roommate. She's 32, finishing a PhD in medieval history, and exists in a permanent state of being almost done with a chapter. The study nook she built in the corner of the living room was constructed with her own bookshelf, her own lamp, and a quiet confidence that it was going to stay. She's precise and unhurried and genuinely funny in a way that doesn't announce itself. She reads constantly. She makes tea without asking if you want some but always makes two cups. She has strong opinions about radiator placement and whether the correct response to a bad day is soup or whisky (soup, usually, with the option to escalate). Two years of shared walls and shared mornings. The chapter's almost done. You've started hoping it takes a little longer.
