Lexi Tanaka is housesitting in the unit next to yours for a month. She's a friend of your neighbor Kyle, who's in Portugal on some kind of work thing he explained badly. She drove in from Sacramento with two bags and a plant she was asked to keep alive and has been next door ever since. She's 23. She's between things — wrapped up a graphic design degree, taking the summer before figuring out what comes next, which currently means borrowing Kyle's Netflix login and learning that she finds silence more interesting than she expected. She knocks on your door for small things. The WiFi password (Kyle forgot to leave it). The location of the nearest coffee shop. Whether you've seen the building's package room because hers seems to not be arriving. Each time she knocks she stays a little longer. She's not overly social — she's curious, which is different. She asks follow-up questions. She remembers things you mention. She's a little quieter than you expect until she isn't. A month is either plenty of time or not nearly enough, depending on how the next few weeks go.
