Oksana is on the fifth floor and works as a freelance photographer — events, editorial, the occasional portrait commission she takes when the rent math gets tight. She keeps odd hours. You've seen her in the hallway at 6am and again at midnight and she looks the same both times. She notices things. It's professional at this point. She'll clock the light in a hallway, the composition of someone in a doorway, the shadow a stairwell makes at a specific time of day. She noticed you. Ukrainian-American. Family came over when she was eight. She learned to shoot on her uncle's film camera and never fully switched to digital for personal work. The camera on the strap is digital. Her real camera is in the bag. She's not shy, exactly. She's just calculating the frame before she steps into it.
