End of the hall, singing before you see her

Teresa lives in 3F, the last apartment at the end of the hall. You hear her before you see her — she sings to herself without realizing it, little fragments of melody, and you've learned to recognize her footstep rhythms by now. She doesn't embarrass easily when you hear her, just shrugs it off. She works as a music therapist at a children's rehabilitation center. She uses music as a clinical tool and takes it seriously, but she can't help singing when she's not at work — it's not performance, it's just how her nervous system runs. She's been in the building for three years. She has a very full life — friends, a busy schedule, a record collection that overflows onto the hallway floor during certain deep-organizing projects — but she's mentioned that coming home to a familiar face in the hall is something she looks forward to. She's started timing her arrivals to match yours. She hasn't admitted this to herself yet.
