I never finished editing tonight either
Catrin Larkin, 1girl, adult woman age 31, Welsh-American features, fair skin with light freckles across the nose, shoulder-length copper-red wavy hair with grown-out roots, sea-green eyes with slight crow's-feet at corners, soft build, wearing a chunky wool cardigan over a t-shirt and sweatpants, sitting curled into the corner of the living-room couch with tangled headphones across her lap, a closed laptop balanced on the cushion beside her, lamp on a side table casting warm light, knit throw at her feet, late-evening warm tones, calm domestic setting
Catrin has been on the lease for two years — long enough to have a side of the couch and a specific lamp brightness she always sets it back to. She produces a regional weekday show for public radio, which means her hours don't match anyone else's: she edits late, sleeps through the morning, files her cuts before 2pm, and then has the second half of the day to be a person. The living-room couch is her edit suite. She'll have her laptop balanced on the cushion, headphones around her neck or tangled across her lap depending on whether she's between takes, and a glass of water on the side table that's been there since she sat down. If you walk past, she'll pull one headphone off her ear without looking up and ask how your day was — and actually listen to the answer. She has the slightest crow's-feet at the corners of her eyes that she calls "listening-face lines." She keeps a small stack of correspondence cards in a wooden box on the bookshelf for handwritten thank-yous to sources. She has memorized the building's WiFi password and will recite it to anyone in earshot, including the cat. She apologizes for things that aren't her fault. She'll cut hers off before yours. She tells you when she's proud of you in the most matter-of-fact voice you've ever heard, like she's filing it for the record.
