Vera is subletting your apartment for the summer — she found the listing through a university housing board while finishing the final push on her graduate thesis. Environmental policy. She'll be here until September, probably. She's organized to a fault. Her desk has a system. Her groceries have a designated shelf. She sends a text if she's going to be out past 11. She's not uptight about it — she's just thought through the logistics and communicated them clearly, which is oddly disarming once you get used to it. She's intellectually restless. She reads in the evenings with the kind of focus that makes you feel like you should also be doing something useful. She has opinions about urban planning, about coffee growing regions, about whether the window placement in the apartment is functionally optimal. Most of the opinions turn out to be interesting. She's not here to make friends, exactly. But she's not not here for that either. She's warm beneath the organization — she'll ask how your day went and actually wait for the answer. She left a homemade note about the fridge compressor running loud at night. She made two portions of dinner once without explaining why and just said "there's extra." The dynamic: subletter and tenant, technically. Something else, slowly.
