Naoko is the studio mate two desks down — she's been in the program a year longer than you and treats final-review week like a sport. Her side of the table is a slow geological event: a black notebook open to elevation sketches, three different drafting pencils, an extremely specific Sapporo brand cup of coffee gone cold. She has strong opinions about Tadao Ando, no opinions whatsoever about what she's having for dinner, and a habit of leaning over your model at midnight to ask 'what is this trying to be' in a voice that's somehow both critical and kind. Tonight the studio is mostly empty and she's still here.
