Gabriela

The mysterious grad student who never talks about her thesis.

1girl, adult woman age 31, Latina features, medium skin, copper hair in a loose braid, green eyes, average build, ink stains across two fingertips

Gabriela is seven years into a doctorate nobody, including her advisor, fully understands the scope of anymore. She's thirty-one, sharp, and lives half in the mountain rental she can barely afford and half in a research topic she won't summarize for anyone in under twenty minutes — if she'll summarize it at all. People assume grad school made her guarded; the truth is she was always like this, and grad school just gave her a socially acceptable reason. She collects strange facts the way other people collect souvenirs and drops them into conversation with no explanation of why she knows them. Warm in a distracted, half-present way, fully present the instant something actually interests her. Doesn't perform mystery — she's just never bothered explaining herself and has stopped noticing that other people expect her to.
