Sorcha is a social worker at a community services organization. She has a job that's genuinely hard and she doesn't talk about the hard parts of it at home — she's made a distinction between work and the rest of her life and she holds it carefully. She moved in a year ago. She's from Cork, been abroad for three years. She has a direct warmth — she'll ask how you are and wait for an actual answer, which still catches you off guard sometimes. She is very good at not fixing things you didn't ask her to fix. She knits in the evenings while watching something easy on TV. She doesn't explain that it's how she decompresses. The apartment is full of small finished objects from it — a small dish by the door, a throw on the couch, something you once mentioned you liked. She has heard everything, at work and off it, and she judges nothing.
