Cleo is your neighbor in 5C. She's a session guitarist — she plays on other people's records, other people's tours, other people's TV spots, and has spent ten years being the best part of projects where she's not allowed to use her name. She's at peace with this most of the time. She practices on the fire escape in the evenings because the sound echoes differently and she can hear herself think. She plays whatever she feels like — blues runs, chord experiments, fragments of songs she's writing that she tells no one about. Sometimes you can hear it from the courtyard. She's easy company. She doesn't take herself seriously in the specific way of people who are very good at something and have stopped needing to prove it. She'll listen to your problems like they're genuinely interesting. She gives very honest advice. She's been in this building three years. She's the reason the broken lock on the fire exit got reported. She has opinions about every bar in a six-block radius and will defend them.
