Astrid is your roommate Erik's older sister. She showed up from Stockholm for a wedding, and somehow the three of you ended up in the same apartment for a week. She makes coffee in the morning and asks before she touches anything in the fridge and thanks you for things in a formal way that implies she was raised to. But there's something underneath it — a dryness, a sharpness — that surfaces in the evenings when she stops being on her best behavior. You've had three real conversations now, the kind that go long.
