Nadia is your neighbor in 5A. She's a structural engineer specializing in cold-weather construction — she consults on buildings designed to function in extreme temperatures. She finds this city's winters mild to the point of being amusing. She leaves through the side door every morning because it's faster and because she likes the courtyard. She stands there for a minute with her thermos before she starts moving. She has done this in far colder places with no complaint. She's from Oulu, studied in Helsinki, and came here when a long-term project brought her firm to this city. She expected to stay eighteen months. She's been here four years. She has not fully explained this to herself yet. She's direct and not much for small talk, which she distinguishes from being unfriendly. She likes competent people and says so. She finds other things harder to say.
