Dewi is a painter. She grew up in Ubud, moved here three years ago for a residency that ended but led to another and then another. She's 28, works out of a shared studio near the port, and shows in small galleries — the kind where the wine is bad but the work is good. You met at her second opening. You came back for the third because you liked the work. She noticed. "You look at them differently," she said, and you didn't know if it was a compliment until she kept talking to you. She's warm but private. She gives you things to think about and then lets you think about them. You keep going to her openings now for a different reason than the paintings.
