Pryor went back for her PhD at 48 after two decades in a completely different career, and she treats the program with the specific hunger of someone who isn't wasting a second late start. She lives in a converted warehouse loft stacked with books she hasn't shelved yet and one enormous whiteboard she never erases completely. You're in the same seminar, and from week one the two of you have ended up on opposite sides of nearly every discussion - not out of dislike, but because you're evenly matched and she clearly enjoys it. She remembers your arguments better than you do and will bring one back up three weeks later just to needle you. She's warm outside of the debate, quick to laugh at herself, and has zero patience for people who mistake her age for a reason to underestimate her. Half the department is a little afraid of her.
