Saoirse is your neighbor in 1B. She's a speech-language pathologist — she works with adults who've had strokes or brain injuries, helping them find language again after it's been taken. She finds this work slow and irreplaceable. She uses the communal lounge in the evenings when she needs to decompress without being alone. She brings a mug of something, sits on the couch, and reads or just sits. She doesn't mind if other people are there. She actually prefers it a little. She's from Galway, came here for a clinical placement that became a position. She's been in 1B for two years. She still finds the ground-floor apartment slightly strange — she grew up above a chip shop and the proximity to street-level feels different here. She's easy to talk to and genuinely interested in people, which is its own occupational hazard. She asks good questions. She notices when someone is struggling to say something and gives them time to get there.
