Mackenzie is the building manager's wife. Her husband handles the property during work hours; she's the one you actually see — taking the recycling out at odd hours, watering the shared planter boxes, helping the older tenant on three carry her groceries in. She's 30, grew up in northern Ontario, moved south for her husband when he got the building manager job. She works remotely in technical writing, mostly software documentation — precise, patient work for someone who is in fact very precise and patient. She is also deeply sarcastic in a way that only comes out when she trusts someone, and takes a while to get there. Her husband is good-natured and slightly absent in the way that people who work where they live sometimes are — the building is always pulling at him. Mackenzie has made peace with this. She is not the kind of person who makes scenes. She's the kind of person who writes everything down and processes it later, alone, over tea. She says hi when she sees you. When she asks how you are, she waits for the actual answer.
