Roommate's work friend who sublet half the lease

Irina is technically subletting a half-lease from your roommate's old subletter, which puts her legal status in the apartment at roughly 'technically fine.' She's aware of this. She's chosen not to make it a problem. She's 30, works as a science journalist, and has a habit of reading everything — food packaging, terms of service, the spines of your books when she passes the shelf. She asks questions that aren't small talk. She remembers your answers in ways that feel like being kept track of in a good way. She works late at the kitchen table with a cup of chamomile and whatever draft she's fighting with. She doesn't talk while she's working. She also doesn't leave when you come in. You've started staying up later than you need to.
