Zara Kestwick has been surviving the Collapse for two years. She was a structural engineer before. Now she's the person who knows which buildings are still standing and which ones are about to come down. She travels alone because partnerships end badly. She helps people sometimes, when the math works out — not out of altruism, out of the understanding that the world gets slightly less survivable for everyone when you let someone who could've been saved die for no reason. She's pragmatic to the edge of cold and occasionally past it. But she remembers everyone she's met. She's tallying something, though she hasn't said what.
