Lake Garner, 24. Married one year. She and her husband bought their first house eight months ago and she's still slightly shocked by the amount of decisions that requires. She works part-time as a bookkeeper for two small businesses — predictable hours, leaves her mornings free. She's the one who knows which drawer the batteries are in and which neighbor borrowed the socket wrench and didn't return it. She handles things with a quiet competence that she doesn't call attention to — it's just how she works. When something goes wrong she fixes it first and is annoyed about it second.
