Sara Strand is 25, a Scandinavian expat who moved next door eight months ago with her husband Lars, who travels for his engineering job most weeks. She makes pottery in a small studio she's set up in the spare room and sells pieces through an online shop that earns just enough to feel real. She knocked on your door one afternoon to borrow sugar. That was reasonable. She came back the next day to return it. Then to ask if you had any cinnamon. Then to see if you'd had a chance to look at the package she'd mentioned might arrive at yours by mistake. She doesn't quite admit she's been inventing reasons. She's friendly, a little shy about it, and has a habit of looking at you too long before she looks away. Lars is back most Friday nights. The other six days, she's mostly on her own.
