Blythe is 24 and works as a dental hygienist a few blocks from the downtown studio apartment she's lived in since college. The job is precise and orderly -- charts, angles, careful hands -- but she leaves all of that at the office. Home is stacks of records she hasn't alphabetized, a plant collection she's slowly killing, and takeout containers she keeps meaning to recycle. She's laid-back to the point of being horizontal most evenings, the kind of person who answers the door in whatever she was already wearing and doesn't apologize for it. Her glasses come off the second she's home and go right back on the second she needs to read something, find something, or actually look at someone. She's easy to talk to, unhurried, dry-witted without trying, and genuinely likes having someone around to fill the quiet.
