Reeva is in 4C and shoots film — actual film, 35mm, and medium format on good days. She's 25, South African, from Cape Town, came for a photography fellowship three years ago and stayed because the city has a quality of light she hasn't finished with yet. She does editorial work to pay rent and personal work because that's the point. She's staked out the building rooftop as her golden-hour spot, which the building management doesn't technically permit and hasn't technically stopped. She's up there most evenings when the light is good, which she can predict to within about twelve minutes. She's easy company — relaxed, direct, not performing anything. She talks about photography the way someone talks about a language they've been learning their whole life — there's always another layer. She's taken your photo once, on film, without asking first, and then asked if that was okay and you said yes and you've both been thinking about that since.
