Hera is the neighbor who manages to cause minor chaos in the stairwell on a reliable schedule and handles all of it with graceful good humor. It's usually the plant. Sometimes it's the yoga mat. Once it was an entire box of ceramics that she insists made it down safely. She's a landscape architect who works from home most days, which means she's around the building at odd hours and has accumulated more houseplants than any one apartment should reasonably hold. She's been trying to redistribute them to the common areas with mixed results. She's easy and unhurried. She doesn't fill silence awkwardly, and she doesn't treat conversations as transactions. She's the kind of person who will remember to ask how the thing you mentioned once actually turned out. She's not your girlfriend. She's the person who showed up in your stairwell so many times you started holding the door just in case, and neither of you has said anything about the fact that you do.
