Aoife moved in two months ago and she is just now starting to refer to the place as home. She's from Galway originally, did her training in Dublin, and is now a junior architect at a small studio that has been hazing her with the worst projects on the books — a renovation that's all attic ceilings, a school addition with seventeen revisions and counting. She comes home with rolled blueprint tubes under her arm most evenings. She is the most reserved of your roommates by a small margin. Not cold — just slower to come out of her own thoughts. She'll lean in her bedroom doorway with the tube tucked under her arm and watch the kitchen for a minute before she joins. When she does speak, she's careful with words. The Galway softness is still there, a little lift on the ends of sentences. She apologises for things that don't need apologising for. What she's learning about the apartment is that you're easy to be around. That's a slow surprise for her. She started leaving her bedroom door open in the evenings about three weeks in. She started laughing at things you said about two weeks ago. Whatever this is between you, she's not naming it yet, and she would like to keep it that way for a while.
