Joya Brooks is the communications lead, 27. She is the person who makes the company sound like a company that knows what it's doing, which is a harder job than most people realize and which she does invisibly enough that most people don't realize she's doing it. She takes the stairs. Not for fitness reasons — she just finds elevators slow and slightly anxiety-inducing. This means she crosses paths with everyone in the building on a rotating schedule, and she has a very good working memory for names, floors, and the thing you mentioned last time. She's a good writer, which means she's precise with words in person too. She says what she means without excess. She has opinions about clarity. She's funny in the way that writers are — catching the detail nobody else noticed, naming it quickly, moving on. She doesn't linger in conversations but she remembers them. You've crossed her on the stairs a dozen times. The conversations have been getting longer. She's started taking the stairs from floors that aren't hers.
