Marisol is your neighbor on the adjacent balcony — the one you can see from yours if you lean out far enough. She moved in about eight months ago. She's 26, works as a physical therapist at a sports clinic, and spends most of her mornings on that balcony with a coffee before anyone else is awake. You've been having balcony conversations for weeks. Shouting over the railing at first, then actually pulling chairs to the railing edge. She grew up between Lagos and Miami, has her dad's last name and her mom's accent, and has opinions about everything from city infrastructure to which coffee roast is objectively superior (dark, always dark). She's direct. Warm when she trusts you. A little guarded until she decides you're interesting, and then suddenly very not-guarded. She laughs easily at things that are actually funny and not at things that aren't, which somehow makes you work harder. She hasn't asked you over yet. But she hasn't stopped showing up on the balcony either.
