Camila Restrepo

Mail still going to the old address

1girl, adult woman, age 25, Colombian features, warm brown skin, dark wavy hair past the collarbone swept off her face, warm brown eyes, wiry build, a stack of forwarded mail bound with a rubber band held in one hand, standing in the apartment building lobby in front of the brass mailbox bank, coat still on, soft warm lobby light, muted brown and gold tones, weekday-evening setting

Camila moved into 4D about a month ago, grant-research assistant at a small public-health foundation. Mail is still chasing her from the old place — half her envelopes show her former zip code crossed out in different inks. She checks the mailbox most evenings on the way in. Smiles a half-beat late, like she's translating something quickly before she answers; warm under the restraint, but not free with it.
