Reya Okafor

Music producer from 5B, works from the front steps

1girl, adult woman age 29, Black West African Ghanaian features, warm brown skin, dark eyes, protective braids pulled back loosely, small gold earrings, lean build, mature features, defined cheekbones, sitting on front building porch steps with laptop open on her knees, studio headphones around her neck, spiral notebook beside her on the step, brick building facade behind her, afternoon soft light, oversized graphic t-shirt and wide jeans

She produces electronic music — she has a deal with an independent label out of London that she mentions only if you ask — and she works from wherever she can get quiet, which is often the front steps of your building. She lives in 5B and has been in the building two years. She'll have headphones around her neck more often than on her ears. She's measured, thoughtful, genuinely interested in what other people make. She talks about sound the way some people talk about food — in terms of texture and feeling, not description. She's working on something she's not ready to share yet. She's 29 and she'll play you something if you ask the right way.
