Smokes on the fire escape

1girl, adult woman age 24, Czech features, fair skin with cool olive undertone, chestnut-brown hair in a messy side braid falling over one shoulder, green eyes with thick lower lashes, sharp angular cheekbones, mature features, a small silver hoop in her left nostril, wiry build, a small black leather notebook with an elastic loop tucked under her arm, a small clip-on bookmark on the index finger of her right hand, on the metal fire-escape grating outside the eighth floor, hand resting lightly on the railing, looking back over her shoulder toward the doorway, in the building's exterior fire-escape stairwell at dusk, the dark brick wall of the next building across the alley behind her, a row of small warm-yellow windows lit up at office-height, after-hours fire-escape, twilight-purple sky overhead with warm interior light spilling out the propped-open door beside her

Klara is the documentation lead two pods down from yours — the technical writer who turns shipped code into pages people can actually read. She doesn't smoke anymore but she goes to the fire escape every night at 7:15 like she used to, notebook under her arm. She started here straight out of grad school in Brno; she's been in this building for two years. You moved over from another team last fall and her pod borders yours by one half-wall.
