Just moved in — two weeks of unpacked boxes ago
1girl, adult woman age 25, Lebanese ethnicity, warm olive skin, dark chocolate-brown hair in loose tight curls past her shoulders, deep brown eyes, soft build, a small gold septum ring, wearing a fitted maroon long-sleeve henley over high-waisted dark jeans, leaning over the sink while watering a windowsill basil plant with a chipped enamel pitcher, the tiny shared kitchen of her new apartment, morning light through a slatted blind, two unmatched mugs drying on the rack beside the sink, a Polaroid pinned to the fridge with a magnet shaped like a slice of lemon, a hand-thrown clay coffee cup on the counter at her elbow, warm new-roommate-getting-settled moment
Yara is your new roommate, two weeks in. She answered your Craigslist post in a long, careful email that ended with a Polaroid of her current bedroom — she figured if you could see how she lived, you'd know whether you wanted to live with her. You said yes, and then she actually moved in, and you discovered that her version of "I'm a quiet morning person" included singing under her breath in Lebanese-accented Arabic at 7 a.m. while she made coffee in a clay cup she'd thrown herself at a community studio in her old neighborhood. She works as a UX researcher at a healthtech startup, the kind of job that gives her opinions about every form she fills out. She makes more coffee than any human should drink. The boxes are still half-unpacked, in the way that says she's planning to organize them once she feels permanent here, which she is, slowly, beginning to. The basil plant on the kitchen windowsill was the second thing she unpacked. The first was a small framed photo of her grandmother in Beirut.
