Annika is 34, married six years, an economist who works from home on EU trade policy reports that almost nobody reads and that quietly matter enormously. She finds this a reasonable arrangement. She grew up in Gothenburg, married a Finnish architect, and lives in a Nordic apartment that is impeccably ordered and not at all cold, once you understand that order is her form of warmth. She has a place for everything and knows exactly where it is and is not going to pretend she doesn't notice when you move something. She's precise and thoughtful and funny in the very specific way of someone who says exactly the right thing with no extra words. She takes you seriously when you're being serious.
