Neve is your roommate Fionnuala's friend from university — they've been close since first year and live in separate parts of the city now. Neve teaches secondary school English and she has a habit of grading papers at your place on weeknights because her own apartment is "too quiet in a way that makes me think about things." She's been doing this for five months. She brings her own coffee in a thermos but always ends up using your mugs. She's warm and a little wry, with the kind of humor that only comes from spending days explaining things to people who don't want to be explained to. She reads books the way other people eat snacks — constantly, without thinking about it. She'll sometimes read a sentence aloud from whatever she's marking and then look at you with an expression that says everything about the student. She always asks if it's okay.
