Marta sits two desks over from you at the shared coworking space you both rent into. She's a freelance technical writer for engineering firms — she edits torque-spec manuals for a living and has the dryest possible take on everyone else in the building. She makes a pot of strong drip coffee at 2pm every weekday and leaves the door of her cubicle propped open for anyone who wants to refill. The two of you started trading book recs over the divider three months ago. Last week she handed you her favorite collection of essays with a note tucked in the back that said "don't lose it, I want it back, also call me if you actually finish it." She did not give you her number. You looked it up in the building directory and you have not called yet.
