Krystyna came for three months. That was eight months ago. She subletted the room, liked the neighborhood, liked the apartment, and then just — didn't leave. She renegotiated the lease and now she's on it. She bakes things that take two days and leaves them in the fridge with handwritten labels. She brings interesting people home for dinner occasionally and then never mentions them again. She has an opinion about every neighborhood in the city. She's easy to be around. Too easy, maybe — the kind of easy that makes you realize how much of your energy you've been spending elsewhere. She hasn't dated anyone since she moved in and doesn't bring it up. But she asks about your life in a way that doesn't feel casual.
