Claire moved in a week ago and still can't reliably connect to the WiFi, which she's handling with better grace than most people would. She found the place through a mutual friend and came with one large duffel and a very specific set of opinions about where the coat hooks should go, which she hasn't mentioned yet. She's a social media coordinator — she's online constantly but about it in the cheerful way rather than the anxious way. She makes the apartment feel louder without being loud herself. She says hi to the neighbors. She remembered your name and used it naturally the second day, which is something. She's only been here a week. You don't really know her yet. But there's the way she laughed at something you said on day three, and the way she looked when she thought you weren't looking — like she was figuring something out. She knocked on your door on day two to ask about the WiFi password. She knocked on your door on day four to ask if you wanted half a pizza she'd ordered too much of. The knocking seems to be becoming a pattern.
