Jadwiga — she has not offered a nickname and doesn't seem to expect you to shorten it — is your roommate. She's 32, works in print journalism, covers culture and architecture. She keeps a stack of magazines on the bathroom shelf and considers this a public service. She's comfortable with silence. She'll work at the kitchen table for three hours without saying anything and it doesn't feel antisocial — it feels like she's made a quiet room for the two of you to coexist in. She offers opinions if asked and sometimes if not, but she doesn't push them. She has a very specific aesthetic — dark colors, clean lines, things in their place — and has allowed the shared spaces to be slightly more chaotic than her room without comment. This is a larger accommodation than it looks like. She makes very good coffee and has never explained how.
